I have traveled extensively to other cities, so here is a comparison to the areas that I have experienced
riding the transit systems.
ORLANDO, Florida
Orlando is a city one third the size of Charlotte with
a regional population about the same as the Charlotte region. For over 20 years, the Orlando LYNX transit system has operated
in 3 counties, with express buses to six counties during peak hours. The system has major transit centers at most of the area
malls and at Disney World, where passengers travel to each transit hub and transfer to buses taking them to area destinations.
The transit system in Orlando has been decentralized, and they are currently in the process of decentralizing
routes even more. The biggest advantage to Orlando residents and visitors is that the system covers a large 3 county area
and bus riders can get from Orlando to all the surrounding cities and attractions via easy connections all day long.
ATLANTA, Georgia
Atlanta is a city about two thirds the size of Charlotte with a regional population about
twice that of Charlotte. The Atlanta Marta System operates in two counties, and for over 15 years has linked the bus systems
in four other counties to the Atlanta system, making Atlanta's MARTA transit system one six county transit system.
Atlanta has a similar light rail system to what Charltote has, but the light rail system already has developed extensively
with several light rail lines up and running. The Atlanta area currently has Express bus service to 8 counties in the region
which operate during peak hours only.

CHARLOTTE, NC
The transit system in Charlotte
is known as CATS. The local bus system only operates in Mecklenburg County. The system does offer Express Service during peak
hours to and from six other counties. There are currently no links to the transit systems in the surrounding counties,
making bus riders find alternative means to get to the surrounding counties.
With two simple links, CATS could
become a massive force in regional transportation, spanning four counties and offering local transit routes in four counties,
including Mecklenburg, Concord, Rowan and Gaston counties.
